You're on a romantic cruise and sitting at a table for two. Your companion casually makes a cutesy quip something like, 'I didn't know they allowed dogs on this cruise ship!' Oops! You have been sampling delicious food all day - and now you have gas. Picture it: You are on a romantic cruise and sitting at a table for two. Your companion casually makes a cutesy quip something like, 'I didn't know they allowed dogs on this cruise ship! Just kidding - somebody at the next table must have a bad case of gas.' You know doggone well that it was you. You have been sampling delicious food all day - rich fare that is not part of your usual diet - and now you have a bad case of gas! It is embarrassing, irrevocable, and you know that you do not want to have flatulence in a couple of hours when you and your partner retire to your cabin. Did you know that if you had packed a bottle of digestive enzymes, this might not have happened? Digestive enzymes are available at many stores, including places like Wal-Mart. They contain a mixture of enzymes that help to break down proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, and milk products. You can even order them online. (Do a search for 'digestive enzymes purchase online'.) Another good item to pack is a bottle of probiotics. Probiotics contain some of the good bacteria that make yogurt, etc., and will help your system cope with the plethora of foreign bacteria you are likely to encounter. Probiotics are widely available, and you can also order them online. (Search for 'probiotics purchase online'.) Finally, carry simethicone capsules and an anti-diarrheal in your suitcase. These are available by many brand names. Be sure to check with your doctor about all of the above before trying - at the same time that you receive medical advice about pre-travel vaccinations and prescriptions. Rather than leaving all this to the last minute, experiment in advance to see how well you tolerate everything. Some people may experience stomach discomfort or other reactions, even though probiotics and digestive enzymes are naturally occurring substances. Then... relax and enjoy your getaway!
