Easy Egypt: The New Beach Hotspot
Sharm El Sheikh's position on the very tip of the sunny Sinai Peninsula provides miles and miles of soft, white sandy beaches and warm, blue waters, which lap the shores. Here you will find plenty of opportunity for snorkeling and scuba diving.

As British tourists seek to visit new and more culturally exotic destinations, the North African country of Egypt has steadily increased its share of visitors. With golden sands, turquoise seas, and a perfect outdoor climate, it's little wonder that over one million tourists from the UK visited the country in 2007.

So what sets Sharm El Sheikh apart from other popular beach destinations such as those in Spain, France, or Italy? Well, one of Egypt's biggest draws is the abundance of prime scuba-diving sites, including the famed reefs of the Ras Mohamed National Park and Far Gardens, situated between Naama Bay and Sharks Bay. Here, fans of marine life will find plenty of opportunity for snorkeling and a large selection of diving centers, which offer scuba courses for all levels of diver from beginners to qualified dive masters alike.

Visitors to the Red Sea's underwater world can see hundreds of species of aquatic life including turtles, lionfish, moray eels, giant clams, crocodile fish, blue spotted stingrays and the imperial shrimp. A big bonus of diving in Egypt is the price; Sharm El Sheikh is one of the cheapest places in the world to get a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) qualification.

For those who just want to top up the tan, Sharm El Sheikh's position on the very tip of the sunny Sinai Peninsula provides miles and miles of soft, white sandy beaches and warm, blue waters, which lap the shores. Sports fans can enjoy Sharm El Sheikh's PGA golf course and tennis courts, and the health spas provide the ideal way to relax after a day's exertions.

However, Sharm El Sheikh is not just an outdoor enthusiast's paradise; there's plenty for the socialite, too. Why not try smoking the delicious local fruit tobacco at a sheesha cafe, before heading off to dine in one of the many restaurants? Finish the night off by mixing with the locals and other visitors at the various bars and discos that are scattered around the area.

As well as offering an exotic blend of North African- and Middle Eastern-influenced attractions at the bazaars and souks, Sharm El Sheikh also offers shopping in Western-style enclosed shopping malls where duty-free goods can be bought at bargain prices.

With the increasing popularity of Egypt as a vacation destination, cheap holidays to Sharm El Sheikh are readily available, with package deals including flights, food, and hotel accommodation - rivaling those in more traditional beach locations in France, Spain, and Italy.

So if you're looking for a holiday that combines, sun, sand, and scuba with culture and clubbing, then skip Spain, forget France, and enter Egypt.
