Add Magic to Your Wedding Day
Anna picked a card and wrote her name across it and her new husband did the same. When the magic words were spoken, their two cards merged into one and became a card with two faces, her signature on one side and his on the other. Enchanting!

If you want your guests to remember your wedding as the best to which they've ever been, I recommend you hire a magician. Magic fills in all those awkward gaps in the proceedings and gets everyone involved and talking to each other.

The special, dream-like quality we all want for our wedding day is enhanced beautifully by magic and the sense of excitement and wonder it creates.

My own wedding had the potential for being a bit strained. Our families had never got on particularly well, and we were apprehensive as to how the day might go. The magician we hired was fantastic. Not only did he perform miracles of magic, he gave our two mums such a surprise that they both screamed, then laughed together, and we could see the tension between them draining away.

The magician at my sister's wedding gave them a lovely memento. Anna picked a card and wrote her name across it and her new husband did the same. When the magic words were spoken, their two cards merged into one and became a card with two faces, her signature on one side and his on the other. It's now in a double-sided frame, hanging in their kitchen like a mobile.

My husband doesn't like dancing and would have felt very left out at one wedding we went to, had it not been for the magician. While I was boogying away with the majority of the guests, Dan saw a red-hot 10-pence piece burn through a pack of cards. The magician had to repeat that trick when I came back to the table!

My cousin's day could have been spoiled by a mistake the hotel had made, which resulted in the wedding breakfast being served a good two hours late. However, because they had a magician (at my suggestion, I'm proud to say), I believe very few people noticed the delay - we were all too absorbed by the magic.

Weddings can be difficult for teenagers, who are too old to play with the children or be entertained by whatever the little ones are doing, yet are often too young to be interested in adult conversation. My friend's son, Nathan, had this experience at our wedding and was saved by the magician, who taught him a couple of simple tricks and very kindly gave him a pack of cards. This kept Nathan busy for the rest of the day - and, in fact, for months afterwards.

When you are choosing a magician to perform at your wedding, remember that you'll get what you pay for. If you book the cheapest one, you may not get the standard you'd like. Your wedding is important - this is NOT the time to skimp! Beyond the fee, if the magician is a member of The Magic Circle, you can be pretty confident he (or she) will be good.

A traveller. I love his title. A traveller is to be reverenced as such. His profession is the best symbol of our life. Going from - toward; it is the history of every one of us. It is a great art to saunter. -- Henry David Thoreau
