A Romantic Break that’s Easy on the Wallet

Trying to plan an inexpensive romantic break? You don't need to spend a small fortune to create a memorable getaway. Read this article for more information.

Trying to plan an inexpensive romantic break? How about a picnic?

Do some research and select a secluded spot away from background noise, traffic, airplanes, kids, and other distractions.

If you live in the center of a big city, this may not be practical. See if you can get to a balcony or roof garden - a cozy spot protected from prying eyes. (By the way - do not do anything in public places that could get you arrested. Use discretion!)

You can even plan a picnic for your backyard, living room, bedroom, or your favorite hotel. If you decide to go to a hotel, consider travelling there and back via limo.

Here are some suggestions for your picnic basket:

  • A thick blanket - to protect from sharp rocks or hard floor/balcony surfaces.

  • Small pillows to support your heads while you count clouds (or just for comfort).

  • Picnic lunch. Stuck for ideas? Try a local delicatessen. Take-out fried chicken, pizza, or Chinese food are also options.

  • Add some strawberries or an exotic fruit that you both like, along with chocolate dipping sauce (the type that does not require heating).

  • Whipped cream

  • Drinking water

  • Champagne, corkscrew, and glasses

  • Eating, cutting, and serving utensils

  • Plates, bowls, etc.

  • Napkins and/or paper towels. These can also be moistened with a little water for clean up.

  • Something in which to store leftovers

  • Heart-shaped helium-filled balloons

  • A book of romantic poetry or short stories that you can read to one another.

  • Mood music with the appropriate audio player.

  • Flowers, flower petals, or potpourri - scatter around the blanket.

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses

  • Bug repellant

  • Umbrella. Pick a huge umbrella under which you can cuddle together.

  • Jackets. Wind or sudden temperature changes can turn a picnic into a miserable, cold experience if you have not planned for it.

  • Camera. If you have a camera that supports it, set the timing feature and take some 'couple' photos.

Spend the afternoon relaxing, chatting and connecting (or reconnecting). If you feel sleepy, have a catnap. Slow dance or sway to the music. How about a massage?

The mood has been set . . . What happens next is up to you!
